line lb. test and type

I use fireline but like braid for kelp and reef fishing. i have 12 lb. on my one curado 200d then 6 lb. on my other curado 200d. I always use a 8 lb. leader about 1.5 feet long. that makes the real difference or i would never catch fish on the 12 lb. tell me what you use and what you think about it.
