ive been doing some charters lately and the fishing has been good. lots of calico limits here in SD and plenty of makos to keep us entertained. i also took the kid out on sunday where we caught 4 pups. it was mako chaos with teegan. first here are some picks of a mako from a charter out of LA harbor. it was in the 140 ish range and not worthy of a hook for our seasoned angler. we fed it some tuna heads......next we have mako chaos with teegan. we started our sunday afternoon with teegan playing captain and he drove us up to la jolla for a look around. we put out the rapalas and metered over the area where the wsb have been caught. looks like there is still squid down there. no barries or anything else so we anchored in the kelp and caught a few calicos and rockfish. teegan started feeling a little off so we pulled anchor and started trolling south. we got picked up and a mako goes airborne. we farmed the 70ish fish but teegan was fired up and feeling good. within minutes we had a double going on the mako pups. teegan got to see all about a makos bad attitude and we released 2 makos after some creative boat handling.after some high fives, we trolled around some more and talked about the makos bad attitude. teegan says " the only good mako is a mako you can eat". i laughed, and he said he wanted one to eat one. just then we hooked another one!!!!!! i asked what he wanted to do and he says its coming home for dinner. teegan whacked his first mako!!! here is the money shot.the boy is stoaked!!! yeah i know its a pup, but its all good in my book. we changed gears and continued on home with the bounce ball gear out. it produced a 21 1/2 inch butt and a calico.
i fish every chance i get.
