After reading Berzerker's amazing mid week trip to the island I talked the Silver Ghost into a island run this weekend.  Brought along a rookie fisherman friend of mine Justin for his first island trip.  Left Friday night launching around 10pm and headed out to our friends at Long Beach Bait for some squid.  Long Beach didn't have any of the candy bait but a quick phone call to Mike at San Pedro Bait confirmed that he had some left.  After a short run across the harbor to pick up bait and then we were crossing in near full moonlight and smooth water.

Arrived at west cove to find a couple of squid boats trying to make bait and maybe a dozen other fishing boats anchored up.  Found a nice little high spot with good marks in about 75-80 ft of water and dropped anchor.  Lines in the water and we found ourselves in a great barracuda bite.  Good quality size berries were coming over the rail including a jumbo log caught by Silver Ghost over 36''.  The cuda bite wasn't stopping anytime soon.  In fact I had to take my line out of the water a couple of hours just so I could get some zzz's.  Woke up around 4:30am and was lines in again looking for some WSB.  No luck today but we did get into a great calico bite.  Best calico went 22'' and 6.5 lbs on the spring scale.

Here's the big calico.  Sorry for the bad focus.

Decided to get in close to the kelp.  Nothing.  Went looking around in deeper water again.  Nothing.  Headed around the point and worked the front side all the way back to the isthmus. Nothing.  Headed back across in glass like conditions.  Pulled into Long Beach harbor to do a quick look for threshers.  Put some dead sardines into the grinder while cleaning fish and after about 15 minuets...

Had another one bite another 20 mins later but lost it after a short fight.

Here's a funny picture my friend Justin took of me.  Was trying to keep the TAT card in my mouth while holding the shark but the wind came up right when the picture was taken.
