Two day report.
Went out New Years Eve day and got NOTHING. Just one sculpin and frustration to show for a day on the water.
Went out Monday with a new crew Fireman Justin and marine biologist Mark (boat ho Jays brother) and what a difference a day makes. Got a load of squid and motored off a short way.
Foggy to start. Cleared. Flat water. Intermittent fog banks till about 10:30.
Caught the first fish, 24" butt within the first half hour. Worked the area for several more shorts before moving on.
Worked a new zone and came up with two more keepers. One 40" weighing 28 pounds, then a 33" 14+ pound fish. The 24" doesn't even look legal next to the other two larger fish! All fat as can be.
Lost two more very large grade fish before calling it a day.
Total count after dancing a little jig and being out of breath with all the excitement.
7 shorts, 5 of them 21-1/2", 2 at 15" , 3 keepers (see photo) , one flounder, one sculpin, one lizard fish.
