1/5/2012
After finding and patching a pin hole in the top of the fuel tank.
We needed another shake down trip to be sure the leak is sealed.
Thank God no more fuel in the bilge and no more gas fumes!
So Boggs and I decided to give Long Beach harbor a go.

The day started off with a spectacular sunrise, with some awesome red, pink, orange colors with a few white clouds mixed in.
the wind was calm and the harbor area was like a sheet of glass.
water temp at sunrise was 67 and  clean green in color.

Nacho had only deans to offer us, so we took a light pass and off we go.
After working the usual areas with not much success.
I here a little voice inside my head saying the halibut will be deeper .
So we made a quick move to a deeper area .

It is around 9 am and the tide is on the outs.
The sun is now beating down on us and it is feeling like a warm summer day.
Hard to believe its January 5th, and we are fishing in shorts and t-shirt.
and trying to seek shelter under the t-top.

We were not having much luck with the horse sized deans.
So we pull out some frozen squid we had brought out for back up.
and within minutes, I am pulling on a nice grade halibut.
As i slide this nice flatty up to the transom, Boggs aka "stickman"
sinks the gaff right behind the gill plates and pulls her in .
After a quick high 5 and a measurement, she goes 33 in.
and into the fish hold.

Not more than 20 minutes later, I see the Long Beach Police boat
heading our way.
As they slide up on us, Boggs rod gets hammered and is bouncing / shaking
in the rod holder and with the police boat wake rocking us, Boggs gives the police
a how its done show.
As I am trying to clear the other rods, I here one of them say its probably a sting ray!
As Boggs gets this nice halibut up to the boat, between the police boat and us.
The police are now admiring a nice size halibut at the surface.
I see that this fish is barely hooked and a sick feeling comes over me.
Before i could stick the fish, it takes another diving run and as expected
the hook pulls..
To add insult to injury, I here the captain on the other boat say
You can blame your buddy for that one getting away.

As with the last 5 boardings in the last 7 or 8 trips.
All is good and away they go.

All in all, another awesome so.cal. January summer like day !

Good deal getting the fuel leak fixed. It sounded like a tough one to track down.

I would blame the cops wake for loosening the hook and would have told them so.  Weather it's true or not
