Hey Dwayne, Heres the scoop:
These T-Sharks are thought to live here year round but stay deep most of the year. If we are lucky they come up within reach just after their spawn season which is usually in June or July and through the summer depending on water temps and such. When they come up they can be cought between SD and NP from 0 to 5 miles out and typically at the edge of upwellings where bait fish are prevelant. Mosty guys troll Bait O Matics (AKA BOMs) popular colors are purple and black, pink and white and pink and orange. A live bait trailer like a makerel cant hurt. Very Very Slow Troll. These guys strike the bait with their tail to stun it. This is called a knock down. Sometimes the knock down results in a grapple type hook up on the tail which results in a tail hooked fish. This is bad for the fish as it usually results in the fish being over exhausted and their chance of surviving a release is low. Most anglers who are concious of conserving this species will slow troll a makerel without a trailer hook. This alows the fish to slap the bait with their tail and then come back and attack with their mouth thus resulting in a mouth hooked fish. This is less stressful on the fish and allows for a nice release. Listen to the VHF radio and you will start to learn the hot spots that are closest to you and then go jump in the fleet and give it your best shot. We had a great year last year but it is not the rule. If I where you I would start focusing on Makos also.
Hope this helps. Feel free to write me with specific questions.
