Sorry for the late post guys. I was anxiously waiting for my friend to send me the pics before I made a post but he is lagging so I decided I will post it anyways and follow up with the pics later.
I went out on Sunday with a couple friends on a 40 ft sportfisher out of San Diego. We headed south about 70-90 miles. I was told we were around the 238.
The trollers were put out at grey light and we got our first jig strike around 6am on a cedar plug. Everyone was sleeping and I hear ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ so I jump up and grab it. In comes a 33 pound Albacore!! Everyone else got out there too late so we didnt get any baitfish on that stop.
Soon thereafter we get another jig strike on a 15 lb dorado. He was a free swimmer, no baitfish on that stop.
About 45 min later, we get another jig stop on the cedar plug. This time we are ready and get 4 nice quality albacore on bait as well as the troll fish. At this point we have 5 albies in the boat.
The next stop was about an hour and a half later. Couple of the guys were up in the wheel house looking for patties and they start yelling to get ready because albies are crashing straight towards us!! Triple jig strike!!! Then all hell breaks loose!! We got the school to stay at the boat for a good 30 min and scored 7 baitfish along with the 3 on the troll!! WE ARE ALL PUMPED UP AT THIS POINT!!
Around noon, we find a nice big pattie and we soak some dines. We wait about 2 min and HOOKUP!! One goes, then the next, and the next. All of us are hooked up on 20-25 lb yellowtail! Man did those babies kick our ass!! We ended up pulling 8 yellowtail from 20-25lbs from that pattie.
Total Count: 4 anglers : 15 albacore, 8 yellowtail, 1 dorado
Water Temp: 66.7-67.8
My Count: 5 albacore, 1 yellowtail, 1 dorado
My tournament entries will be coming as soon as I get the pics sent to me!! Hell of a trip!!
