Gotten a question or 2 on what my rigs look like. I use 50# OR 65# Spectra main line thru the sinker slide (red) to a ball bearing swivel with an offshore type snap(pigtail). 60# mono leader(24" long approx.) to the dodger. The longer the dodger leader, the slower the action on the dodger due to a greater back and forth arc. You do not want the dodger rotating, thats what a flasher does(except in Hell's Angler mind). I like the dodgers action to be quicker. 30# floro leader thru the hoochie (squid skirt) , 3 or 4 soft beads to a nail knot on a 3/0 hook to a #2 treble. Nose and tail hook the bait, check the action, I don't like them to rotate either, just to gently wave back and forth behind the dodger. This is where I vary the lenghts of the leader often, some very short , some much longer. We also run rigs without the dodgers, can also be very effective. The chain weight shown is rigged my favorite way and weight is anywhere from 24 to 32 oz's depending on where that rod will be located on the boat. Heavier towards the bow. Rods and reels are Calstar 800 series with Avet mxj's and sx's on them. It makes it very fun on the lighter gear.We also use a couple of special rods, 12'0"one piece 20-50 rated fiberglass that are butt killers. We have fun with them. My boat speed is anywhere from .75 kt to 1.50 kt. I rarely take it out of gear. I change things up all the time, so EXPERIMENT, I want to know. You would laugh at some of the junk I have drug around the local waters for days before tossing. DaGoose (BestofBigGame.com)does it a little different, more speed, more weight, heavier gear sometimes. But Rick's records show it works very good. He catch's a ton of Hallie. These systems will also attract other species, most commonly small T-sharks that are very fun , but usually cause a giant tangle as they pass the boat before you can get the rod out of the holder. Feel free to ask anything , let us all know how you do. Still gotta change that darn date in the camera Doh! Its really simple but boring fishing for a great gamefish. When they are on the bite and your are on top of them, it can be very rewarding. If not, just another nice day on the water. Remember that this is a reaction bite system, really dirty water = few biters, cleaner water, get it up a little higher off the bottom so more fish can react to the flasher and chase it down.
