For those of you who know me already know that I have had my boat in newport for years, but due to the bastards milking us for every last penny and raising the rent every year, I have decided to move to Dana Point. I have fished DP numerous times but if someone can pass some sweet local knowledge for butts and where to catch the bait I would very much appreciate it.. btw: Dana point is 40% cheaper and closer to the fish!!!
I have a tub of butter waiting for the bugs but can't seem to get a break to get out there and get 'em. Anyone bugging in the DP area?

Yellowfin are hit and miss and travelling with flipper. Your best bet will be tues or wed, but they seem to have lock jaw. I have to put on new risers & manifolds so i'm out for a while. I hope one of our members picks up the slack.. keep me posted. slowplay

okay maybe not ever,.... but...
Swordies 3miles out from Newport, Marlin 7-10 out from DP, Yellowtail and Dodo's so thick you can walk to San Clemente on them. This only happened because I have been out of town... Well I'm back and this weekend will be a long boat ride and no taco meat... Seriously though, if the weather holds it should still be good. slay'em
I have verified that a nice fat school of albacore was seen 20 out from Dana Point, but unfortunately I cannot give anyone the exact location because my bro reads these posts and would not be happy about it. Of course there are always schools passing through the channel, but these have been there for at least 3 days now.
I will say I have also heard of a lot of big yellowtail on paddies in the same area! 50lb weighed in on Sunday! PM me for more info on the location, but if you have a map and a compass you should be able to figure out where they are! (sorry bro - - can't resist)

I heard from numerous sources today the yellowtail were WFO on paddies 4-6 miles off Oceanside. Fly-lined mini macks were the hot ticket. I did have 1 source @ the 181 and he's being awfully quiet today which usually means he's on somethng... probably 420! lol

Nasty conditions this weekend off the hospital and Mr T. and all of his friends have left us. I would stay home and save your gas for another day.

This is bullshit... $5.15 /gal for marine fuel and there seems no limit to how high it's going to get. With that said, I know personally I cannot afford to fish without more than 3 people (who chip in $$) and I have no plans to "explore" high spots like I used to and based on the lack of postiings on other sites, it looks like very few are getting the chance to explore as well. I think species like Mr T. are in a lot of trouble this year as it is one of the cheapest trophy fish to go after when you consider travel distance and fuel consumption... I'm hoping there is a way to power the boat with whale oil as lately they seem pretty abundant... Whale oil.... hmmmm didn't we try this already? I would rather send my $$ to japan vs. the saudi's ....... At least the japanese are fishing fools like me!
